Martha Stewart trashes her ‘jerk’ ex Andy… 26 years after divorce

Martha Stewart did not hold back when recently asked about her ex-husband, Andy Stewart.

‘He’s a jerk,’ the 85-year-old mogul said plainly when asked about her former spouse.

Martha – who just opened up about cosmetic surgery – was married to the publisher from 1961 until their separation in 1987. Their divorce was finalized in 1990.

She dished about their nearly 30-year marriage, including infidelity and their subsequent split, in her 2024 self-тιтled Netflix documentary.

In the film, Martha admitted to an affair with a ‘handsome Irish man’. She also accused Andy of infidelity.  

Asked by People if she heard from her ex after the doc’s release, the entrepreneur candidly replied: ‘Only legally, to remind me of divorce settlement statements, which I had never read. I mean, who cared after two years of arguing about a settlement? I still haven’t read it.’

The former husband and wife welcomed one child during their union, daughter Alexis Stewart, now 60.

In her documentary, Martha admitted to having an affair during her marriage to Andy, and also warned women to be wary of men who are unfaithful.

‘Young women, listen to my advice, if you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of s**t. Get out of that marriage,’ she advised.

An off-screen producer then asked, ‘Didn’t you have an affair early on?’ to which Martha quipped, ‘Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.’

At an October 2024 book event ahead of the film’s release, her friend Lee Brian Schrager joked, ‘If you’re looking for ideas [for another book] maybe you could talk about how you [had] an affair that happened 30 years ago and you kept it a secret.’

Schrager then asked, ‘How is that possible?’

The mom of one answered, ”Very easy – you have to be circumspect.’ 

Martha started dating Andy – her only husband – when she was 19 and he was 23, after they were set up on a blind date. 

And these days, she implied to People, she still ‘goes out’ with men.

‘I have a very, very full – oh, probably too full! –  life. I go out on… I don’t know if you call them dates or not, but I go out,’ she teased.

However, she said having a partner is ‘less important’ at this point in her life.

‘The older you get, the less you really need a mate, I think. I wouldn’t want to be beleaguered with an older, ill person,’ she explained.

Martha also said she’s experienced dating younger men, saying, ‘I’ve done that. Been there, done that. I have lots of friends. I’m not a lonely person.’

The home expert, who has authored 102 cookbooks, turned 85 on August 3 and has been celebrating with friends in Maine.

This week she shared a pH๏τo of herself in an outdoor H๏τ tub on Instagram, writing in a caption to her three million followers: ‘I am going to use this amazing H๏τ tub every single day I am in Maine.’
