Morning Joe hosts mock Trump’s Lindsey Graham eulogy

The Morning Joe team struggled to stay composed as they panned Donald Trump’s largely unscripted eulogy for the late Lindsey Graham.

Host Joe Scarborough said the president’s speech was more fit ‘for a pub’ than a house of worship.

Trump delivered Graham’s eulogy at the Washington National Cathedral in DC on Tuesday using a series of anecdotes from their relationship over the years.

However, some of his choices left the Morning Joe hosts scratching their heads at the top of their episode Wednesday, including the president’s decision to recount the time he leaked the South Carolina Senator’s phone number to the public.

‘I mean, “Lindsey never saw a war he didn’t like?”‘ Scarborough sarcastically asked, quoting part of the president’s speech about the senator. 

Cohost Jonathan Lemire stifled a laugh as Scarborough pined for something ‘more moving and complimentary and poignant.’

The former Florida Congressman and his cohost Mika Brzezinski were then played a clip of Trump telling those gathered that: ‘Virtually everyone, Republican or Democrat, liked Lindsey.’

Before he then quipped with a laugh: ‘Well, not everybody, but it sounds good.’

The president’s 11-minute long speech contained several brutally honest riffs

Trump then recalled the time he revealed Graham’s cellphone number to the public at a campaign rally in 2015.

‘Back in 2016, Lindsey said something rather nasty on his flight to becoming the next president of the United States. So naturally, I did something that I shouldn’t have done,’ he said. 

Trump joked that the move kickstarted the pair’s ‘friendship’ and that ‘Lindsey did not stop calling me for the next 10 years. It was not easy.’

‘Ay ay ay,’ Scarborough said as the clip cut.

‘Oh my god,’ added Brzezinski, burying her face in her hands. ‘Is this a eulogy at a funeral?’ 

Brzezinski bit down on a pen to suggest she was holding something back. Scarborough joined her in a prolonged facepalm.

Guest Ed Luce, of the Financial Times, then chimed in with a different take on the speech.

‘I’m gonna slightly disagree with you, Joe,’ Luce said, as Scarborough and Brzezinski both laughed. ‘The sort of policy of honesty, even in a eulogy at a funeral. I don’t think it’s necessarily that disrespectful,’ Luce explained.

Graham, a leading Republican voice on foreign policy for decades, died unexpectedly earlier this month at 71. 

He died following a tear in his aorta, according to preliminary findings by the District of Columbia medical examiner released earlier this month. 

Graham was one of the Republican Party’s loudest supporters of the 2026 Iran War, telling Fox News host Maria Bartiromo during an interview in March: ‘Cuba is next.’
